Drake Cement, which began operations in 2011, is a cement company for the 21st century. Since Day One, Drake’s leadership has demonstrated an intense focus on service, quality, and social responsibility while being a responsible employer, neighbor, and corporate citizen.
At Drake, we judge success by the triple bottom line of economic, environmental, and social performance. And the Perkinsville Road pozzolan project would be no exception.
- In an effort to minimize environmental and other impacts, the project would be located on a site that was mined previously. As it was in the past, any land disturbed for the project will be fully reclaimed and restored.
- Should the project proceed, the slope would be graded and trees planted as the site is fully restored upon completion. The site may also be used to situate a small lake or water reservoir.
- Drake’s project will create local jobs and spend money locally, helping to lift the local economy while seeking to have minimal impact on the surrounding area, including in traffic and quality of life.
- Pozzolan allows for the production of superior building materials, making construction safer, more cost-effective, and more environmentally friendly. Natural pozzolans have been used in numerous engineering accomplishments in the U.S., including the Glen Canyon Dam and Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station in Arizona and the Los Angeles Aqueduct and Golden Gate Bridge in California.
- Each year, the use of pozzolan will help remove 146,000 tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere through Drake’s “green cement” production process.
- In collaboration with the U.S. Forest Service, Drake Cement would assist in cutting and thinning trees and vegetation in the area. This thinning would provide greater protection against wildfires. Using the wood as alternative fuel at Drake’s Paulden cement plant would remove an additional 34,000 tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere annually.
